To produce New Beat, start with a slow, heavy kick drum on every beat (4/4 time) at around 110-120 BPM. Layer a deep, resonant bassline that follows the kick, often using analog synths or sampled bass sounds. Add a simple, repetitive hi-hat pattern on the off-beats and a snare or clap on the 2 and 4.
Use dark, minor-key synth pads and arpeggios to create atmosphere. Incorporate samples from obscure films or spoken word for texture. Keep the arrangement sparse and hypnotic, with gradual builds and breakdowns. The overall feel should be driving but not frantic, with a sense of looming tension.
